Toggle switch
A Yes/No column shown as a switch that slides on and off, with the labels of the two options.
What it is
The toggle switch control shows a Yes/No column as a switch. Select it to slide it to the other side. The label next to it shows the text of the current option, so you read "Confidential" or "Public" rather than only seeing a colour.
It is a control for the form only. The column remains a Yes/No column in views, charts and flows.
When to use it
Use it for a setting that people think of as on or off, such as "Is highlighted" or "Send reminders".
A checkbox is fine for something that people tick as part of a list of conditions. A Flip switch shows both options at once. If a third answer might appear one day, start with a choice column.
Licensing and configuration
No extra licence. In the form designer, select a Yes/No column, choose + Component, pick the toggle control and select the clients (web, tablet, phone). Microsoft Learn describes the same pattern for using a standard control on the web and a toggle on tablet and phone. Save and publish the form. The option labels are set on the column in the table designer.
Pitfalls
- A toggle looks like an immediate action, but the value is only saved when the row is saved. Say so in training.
- The control reads the labels of the two options. Very long labels get cut off on narrow forms.
- It does not show "not set". Give the column a default so a new row is not misread.
- Screen reader users need clear labels, so keep the column label meaningful.
Try it in the demo
- Open the first accelerator and find Toggle switch in the Custom controls section.
- Select the switch and watch the label change.
- Check the unsaved status after the record name, then press Ctrl+S.
- Compare it with Yes/No as toggle in the Controls tab, which edits the same data.
