Calendar view
A month or week calendar for the rows of a view, opened with Show As > Calendar and driven by a date column.
What it is
The Calendar view shows the rows of a view on a calendar instead of in a list. Microsoft's documentation describes day, week and month layouts for activities, where you can view, create and delete rows. When the control is on a table, it becomes the default view, and you switch back to the grid through Show As on the command bar.
When to use it
Use it for rows with a clear date, such as tasks, appointments or reviews, when people plan by week or month. Use the Read-only grid for searching, sorting and bulk work, and the Kanban view when the status matters more than the date.
Licensing and configuration
No extra licence. A system customizer or system administrator adds the Calendar control to a table view in the view designer: Components, Add a component, Calendar. You map the start date, end date, description and duration columns. When you add the control it replaces the standard view for all views of that table. Microsoft notes that it is not supported in mobile offline.
Pitfalls
- The control replaces the standard view for every view of the table, not just the one you edited.
- A row with an empty date column does not appear on the calendar.
- Date and time columns follow the user's time zone setting, so a row near midnight can sit on a different day for a colleague. See Date and time.
- Mobile offline does not support the control.
Try it in the demo
- Open Tasks at the deep link. The rows sit on their due date.
- Switch between month and week, and use Today to jump back.
- Select an item to open the task.
The demo places items by one date column and does not support dragging an item to a new day.
