Quick create form

A short form in a side panel for creating a row fast, opened from the + button, a lookup's New option or a subgrid's New button.

What it is

A quick create form is a compact form that opens in a panel on the right, so you stay on the page you were on. You reach it with + in the app header, with + New in a lookup, or with New on a subgrid. Fill in the fields and use Save and close, or Save & create new to keep adding rows.

When to use it

Use it when a row needs only a few fields at creation, or when someone creates a related row in the middle of other work, such as a new category while filling an accelerator. Don't use it for rows that need many fields or process steps: send those to the Main form.

Licensing and configuration

No extra licence. Create a form of type Quick create in the table's Forms area (New form, Quick create form) and set Enable quick create forms in the table properties. The table must also be added to the app. Quick create forms support form scripts and business rules, but always have one section with three columns.

Pitfalls

  • Subgrids, quick view forms, web resources, iFrames and notes can't be added to a quick create form.
  • Only one quick create form is used by everyone. You can't assign it to security roles or let users switch.
  • A table missing from the + menu usually has quick create switched off, isn't in the app, has no quick create form, or the user lacks the Create privilege.
  • A quick create form that exists but isn't in the app still opens from lookups and subgrids. Delete it if you don't want it.

Try it in the demo

  1. Select + in the header and pick Accelerator.
  2. Fill in the fields and select Save & create new.
  3. Open a lookup on a form and choose + New to see the same panel.
