Custom page
A canvas app page that sits inside a model-driven app, for free-form screens that forms and views cannot give you.
What it is
A custom page is a page type in a model-driven app that you design in Power Apps Studio with canvas controls and Power Fx. It runs inside the app, so the header and navigation stay. Microsoft lists several ways to open one: as a full page, a centred dialog, a side dialog or an app side pane. The page takes its state from the parameters you pass or from stored data.
When to use it
Use it when a standard form or view cannot do the job: a wizard, a gallery with custom layout, a landing page, a visual dashboard. Stay with standard forms, views and a Classic dashboard for ordinary data work, because those get new platform features automatically.
Licensing and configuration
Custom pages are created from a solution, in the modern app designer with Add page > Custom page, or from the Solutions area with New > App > Page. You can add an existing page to the site map. After you publish the page in Power Apps Studio you must also publish each model-driven app that uses it, or the app keeps the old version. Licensing follows the data sources you use in the page. Check premium connectors for the extra licence they need.
Pitfalls
- Forgetting to republish the app after the page leaves users on the old version.
- Only one maker can edit a custom page at a time.
- Custom pages carry known limitations. Read Microsoft's list of known issues before you design a complex one.
- A page that duplicates a form creates a second place to fix every change.
Try it in the demo
- Open the Custom page at the deep link and read the explanation.
- In the mock canvas page, select an accelerator in the gallery.
- Select Open in the app to jump to the record.
The demo only mocks a canvas page. The real thing is rendered by the canvas runtime.
