Personalization settings
A personal dialog for time zone, rows per page and number, date and time formats, which applies to every grid and form.
What it is
Personalization settings is where each user adjusts how the app behaves for them. In the product you select Settings (the gear) > Personalization Settings. The dialog includes the default pane and tab, the number of rows per page, the default search experience, the time zone, and the default currency. Formats for numbers, dates and times follow the user's regional options.
When to use it
Point users to it when dates look an hour off, lists are too long or too short, or amounts use the wrong separators. An administrator sets organisation defaults, but each person can override them here. For how a date column behaves per user, see Date and time.
Licensing and configuration
No extra licence. The dialog is part of every model-driven app and needs no setup. Each user opens it from the Settings gear. Microsoft documents a Rows Per Page range of 25 to 250, with smaller values recommended for grid performance. Microsoft also notes that you may need to refresh the app twice before some changes take effect.
Pitfalls
- A wrong time zone shifts every User Local date and time. Check this first when users report odd times.
- Time zone independent and Date only columns ignore the user's time zone, which surprises people who expect all dates to shift.
- A high rows-per-page value makes grids slow.
- A change needs a refresh before every part of the app reflects it.
Try it in the demo
- Open the Settings gear in the header at the deep link and read the dialog.
- Change the time zone, then the date format. A preview line shows the result.
- Select the button to apply the changes, then open a grid and a form. The new formats appear on every date and number.
