Edit columns
A pane on the grid page where you add, remove, reorder and reset the columns of the view, including columns from related tables.
What it is
Edit columns is a button above the grid that opens a side pane. It lists the columns now in the view. You can add more with a search box, including columns from related tables, drag columns to reorder them, remove the ones you don't want and reset to the default layout. Changes show in the grid straight away.
When to use it
Use it to tailor a view to your own work without asking a maker. Add the related-table column you need (for example the parent account's city) instead of opening each form. For the same layout for all users, change the system view in the view designer. To change which rows show, use Edit filters.
Licensing and configuration
No extra licence. Edit columns is a standard button on the grid page. To keep your layout as a personal view, see the View selector. To change the layout for everyone, edit the system view in the view designer.
Pitfalls
- Related-table columns make the query heavier, so a view with many of them gets slow.
- Reset returns the view to its original layout and drops every change you made, so use it deliberately.
- The changes are yours only and don't change the system view, so colleagues keep the original layout.
- Columns a user can't read because of field-level security show no data, even if you added them.
Try it in the demo
- Select Edit columns above the grid.
- Add a column from a related table, such as the category.
- Drag a column to a new position, remove one, then select reset to return to the default.
