FormsModel-driven app

Form selector

A drop-down under the record name that switches between the main forms available for the table.

What it is

When a table has more than one main form in the app, the form selector appears under the record name. Choose another form and the same record reopens with a different layout. In the demo the accelerator has an Information form and a Compact form. The data does not change, only which columns, tabs and components you see.

When to use it

Use several main forms when different roles or tasks need different layouts on the same table, for example a full form for support and a short form for sales. If the only difference is a few hidden fields, a business rule on one form is simpler. For fast data entry of new records use a Quick create form.

Licensing and configuration

No extra licence. Add forms in the form designer. In the app designer, select the form and use Manage forms to choose which forms the app shows. You control who sees which form with security roles on the form, the form order and the fallback form for the table.

Pitfalls

  • A form must be selected under Manage forms before it appears in the selector.
  • A form with security roles only appears for users who have one of those roles.
  • Every table needs a main form and a designated fallback form, so you cannot delete the last one.
  • A business rule scoped to one specific form does not run on the others. Use the All Forms scope if it must apply everywhere.

Try it in the demo

  1. Open the first accelerator.
  2. Open the form selector under the record name.
  3. Switch from Information to Compact and compare the tabs.
  4. Switch back to Information.
