Quick find
The Filter by keyword box above a grid, which searches the columns defined in the table's Quick Find view and narrows the rows shown.
What it is
On a grid page, the Filter by keyword box (quick find) searches only the rows in the current view. It looks in the columns defined as Find columns in the table's Quick Find view. By default it matches text that starts with what you type; start the text with * to match anywhere in the value. Press Enter and the grid narrows to the matching rows.
When to use it
Use quick find when you are already looking at one table and want a predictable text search. When you don't know which table to look in, use Dataverse search. For a combination of conditions, use Edit filters.
Licensing and configuration
No extra licence. The searched columns come from the Quick Find view of the table, which a maker edits in the view designer (Find columns and View columns). Dataverse search and quick find share that view. In the Power Platform admin center, Settings, Product, Features, the option "Use quick find view of an entity for searching on grids and sub-grids" controls whether grids use it.
Pitfalls
- Searching on a column that isn't a Find column returns nothing, which looks like a bug.
- Dataverse search doesn't index related-table columns in the Quick Find view, so the same view works differently in grid and global search.
- Quick find text and other filters combine, so a leftover filter can hide the row you want.
Try it in the demo
- Type a few letters of a name in Filter by keyword; the demo filters as you type.
- Clear the box, then try
*followed by a word from the middle of a name. - Compare the two result sets.
